The Jamaican Green Heron is a small heron species found in wetlands and mangroves throughout Jamaica. They are known for their striking green and chestnut plumage, as well as their skilled hunting techniques, which include standing still and waiting for prey to come within striking distance. They are generally solitary birds and are often difficult to spot, but their distinctive calls can be heard echoing through their habitats. Despite being fairly common in Jamaica, the Jamaican Green Heron is considered a species of special concern due to habitat loss and fragmentation.
