The Little Blue Heron is a small heron species found in various wetland habitats across the Americas, including Jamaica. They are typically around 24 inches in length, with a wingspan of around 40 inches. Adults have a slate-blue plumage with a maroon-brown neck and head, while juveniles are white with gray-brown streaks. They feed primarily on small fish, frogs, and crustaceans, which they capture by standing still in shallow water or by walking slowly through wetlands. The Little Blue Heron is a solitary bird, although they may occasionally be found in small groups. Their populations are generally stable, although they are threatened by habitat loss and pollution in some areas.
